(December 6, 2016) – Denny’s (Nasdaq:DENN) today announced the franchisee award winners recognized at the 2016 Denny’s Franchisee Association (DFA) Convention & Trade Show held Oct. 24 – 27 in Orlando. The annual DFA Convention provides an opportunity for all franchisees, suppliers and corporate leaders to gather together and celebrate the distinctiveness of the brand and each individual who has a role in shaping the Company. The Convention also provides an opportunity for the Company to recognize franchisees for their dedication and commitment to Denny’s.

2016 DFA Awards
The 2016 President's Award was granted to David Beshay, who was honored for his achievements and outstanding commitment to Denny’s as a multi-unit franchise owner and for helping to elevate the Denny’s brand on a breakthrough level. Beshay embodies Denny’s Guiding Principles and has grown to operate 34 units in four states, with two more units scheduled for 2017, all in the past four years. He has brought double-digit remodels into his units as part of Denny’s Heritage program and exudes passion for strengthening the brand.
Denny’s also recognized John Metz and Vic Cuda as Franchisee of the Year in a large group, which honors franchisees running 10 or more restaurants. Their operational philosophy is “Don’t Get Ready, Be Ready.” This franchisee recipient displayed the “Power of We” by being brand ambassadors and elevating awareness in their region during a recent product launch. This franchise organization exemplifies both discipline and accountability, while continuing to deliver strong sales, guest satisfaction and completed remodels.
Enos Yoder and Michelle Yoder were celebrated as Franchisee of the Year in a small group, honoring franchisees running nine or fewer restaurants. These franchisees were recognized for demonstrating what it means to love and grow the Denny’s brand and always looking for ways to improve business operations. The Yoders have invested in their two restaurants by remodeling to the Heritage scheme in 2014, and they continue to bring in exceptional sales as they remain closely involved in the day to day operations of their units, working to continually improve the Denny’s organization.
The award for Highest Sales Volume was presented to franchisee Ron Smothers, and the Highest Comparable Sales award was presented to franchisee Robert Ruckriegel.
In honor of other outstanding performances this year, the following franchisees and areas were also recognized:
- Developer of the Year – Doug Koch
- International Developer of the Year – FoodQuest/Advance
- Highest First Week Sales Volume Award – David Behrends
- Co-Op of the Year (Large Group – 10 restaurants or more) – Los Angeles, California
- Co-Op of the Year (Small Group – nine restaurants or less) – Corpus Christi, Texas
Denny’s also presented its Guiding Principles awards to the following franchisees who exemplify the brand’s core values:
- ‘Guests First’ Award – Mohammad Kabir
- ‘Embrace Openness’ Award – Mike Rommel
- ‘Proud of Our Heritage’ Award – David Beshay
- ‘Hungry to Win’ Award – Syed Ahmad
- ‘Power of We’ Award – Mukesh Dharod
